"When you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone they have had sex with for the last ten years, and everyone they and their partners have had sex with for the last ten years."   -C.Everett Koop, MD. former US Surgeon General

HOW EXPOSED ARE YOU?  Take the test at this link.

Sexually transmitted diseases & infections (STDs & STIs) are spread through vaginal, anal & oral sex.

"Many teenagers, as well as adults, are indirectly exposed to more than one sexual partner each year because their partner has had sex with someone else."   -Alan Guttmacher Institute

Even if a condom is used, you are still at risk as many STI-STDs are transmitted by skin to skin contact. According to the CDC, condoms only REDUCE the risks of some STDs like gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis.  Genital herpes, syphilis and HPV can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered by a condom, as well as areas not covered.  The risk of HIV is REDUCED by 85%.

You can have a STI-STD, never know it and pass it on to someone else.

Is a sexual experience worth your health? Your life?

CONSIDER THE FACTS:

CHLAMYDIA and GONORRHEA are among the most commonly reported BACTERIAL infections- often with NO symptoms- untreated they can cause serious health problems in both men and women.1

GENITAL HERPES currently infects more than 1 in 5 Americans over age 12.  With NO known cure, the painful sores it causes can recur for years.2

HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV) is one of the most common VIRAL diseases in America.  Studies show nearly ½ of all sexually active people acquire GENITAL HPV.  It causes genital warts and is linked to cancer of the cervix, mouth, throat, penis and anus.3

HIV/ AIDS has killed nearly half a million Americans.  1 out of 4 infected people are undiagnosed and unaware of their infection.4

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES and INFECTIONS are the most common in the U.S. next to the common cold and flu.5 6

MORE THAN 1 in 4 young women are presently infected with a STD.7

15-24 YEAR OLDS are ¼ of the sexually active population, yet account for nearly ½ of the infections.8

OVER 9 MILLION EACH YEAR: According to the Guttmacher Institute, there are over 9 million new STD and STI cases every year among 15-24 year olds. That's nearly 25,000 per day.9

THE SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED disease Gonorrhea is becoming increasingly resistant to the last type of antibiotics left to treat it.10

INFECTION with certain common STDs can increase your chance of contracting HIV/AIDS by up to 5 times, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (2004).11
